Prepare your Defensible Space

Preparing a property and home for a wildfire is each owner’s responsibility and doing so will greatly increase the chances that firefighters will be able to save your property. Fortunately, there has been a lot of fire science developed in recent years on the most effective way to create a defensible space. It is a very manageable task that each property owner should undertake. The PBH Firewise program can help with this.

Home Hardening & Firescaping

Fire-resistant home construction and hardening of existing homes are critical factors in a home’s survivability. When combined with current standards for fire resistant landscaping (“firescaping”), property owners’ can greatly reduce chances of home loss. Fire-resistant materials tend to have longer life spans and reduced maintenance. Find out more on both through Firewise.

Foster Community-Wide Action

In addition to your own fire mitigation efforts, your neighbors’ mitigation efforts (or lack thereof) can either be beneficial  or pose risks to others. This means that nearby neighbors in PBH need to get in touch and work together to achieve fire mitigation. The Firewise program stresses neighbors working with neighbors  to achieve wildfire mitigation efforts beneficial to all. Find out how PBH Firewise can help.
